DAR ES SALAAM: Tundu Lissu, the former Vice Chairman of Chama Cha Demokrasia na Maendeleo (CHADEMA), has been officially declared the party’s new National Chairman for Mainland. Lissu secured 51.5 percent of the votes in a tightly contested election during the party’s General Assembly.
Announcing the results, a representative of the Council of Elders, which oversaw the election process, revealed that out of 999 votes cast, 996 were valid, while three were spoiled. Lissu garnered 513 votes, narrowly defeating the outgoing chairman, Freeman Mbowe, who received 482 votes (48.03 percent).
The election process began on Monday, January 21, 2025, and concluded on the morning of Tuesday, January 22, 2025.
